Permissions "Messed Up"
It seemed like overnight, I lost permission on my Windows 7 ultimate box with no solution. At first, it looked like ALL of my pictures were gone. So, I went from the root of C unto my users and pictures and it said I didn't have permission and to click CONTINUE (with the shield) to gain permission. Pictures returned....mostly. I have a handful of directories that will not let me see their pictures or just a few of them. Same thing on them...says no permissions. So I click on CONTINUE and it tells me I've been denied access to the folder...I am the administrator and UAC is off. It said to gain access, go to the security tab. I do so and it says I do not have permission to edit or view object's securiy settings. Suggestions?

Here's an update on this...it looked like Administrators was missing as a security group for the picture folders but now a handful of picturtes under the directory are also not allowed to be viewed and it seems like I now have to go into each picture and allow access. I have no idea how this got so screwed up. Any ideas?

Hi Brian, Please check if the issue can be resolved by System Restore. To do so, please perform the steps below: 1. Restart computer, press the F8 key before the Windows logo appears. 2. On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight Repair your computer, and then press Enter. (If Repair your computer isn't listed as an option, then your computer doesn't include preinstalled recovery options, or your network administrator has turned them off.) 3. Select a keyboard layout, and then click Next. 4. On the System Recovery Options menu, select System Restore. 5. Click "Choose a different point" and click next. 6. Check Show more restore points box. 7. Choose a date before the issue first occurred, and click Next. 8. Click Finish. For more information about System Restore, please refer to: What is System Restore? If the issue persists, you can refer to the suggestions in this thread and see if them help: Quick way to reset all security permissions to default? (Windows 7) Hope this helps. I would guess from seeing the first post here and the last, that malware may be to blame? Usually advanced malware will attack the permissions architecture. Current installed security applications may not be 100% either. To rule it out, can you access the web and try a web-based malware scan? The one I suggest is @ http://www.f-secure.com/en_US/security/security-lab/tools-and-services/online-scanner/index.html If the system seems to give a fight running the F-Secure scan, malware is most defiantly the root cause.
